Is there anything more magical than photographing dancers? The collaboration of art forms is one of the best.
A quick share and summary of Pas de Deux conference in Austin.
Sharing a lifestyle newborn of a good friend of mine. Three boys complete this family of five!
When Covid hit the Houston area, I knew it would impact my business. Like many, it dramatically did. Everything came to a screeching halt. Originally, I welcomed the time, virtual learning was filling my days and family time was filling my evenings.
The one thing I didn’t see coming, is that many people would take this time to finally tackle the marketing and design components they have been putting off. The past few weeks I’ve had several corporate groups and headshot sessions.
When I say I could photograph dancers all day, I mean it. I find dancers to have such strength, determination and beauty that it translates so well to the camera.
For Lauren, we needed some basic headshots, some fun personality pics and a few lifestyle images for her to use. We started with the more formal classic headshots and gradually got more casual with the outfits and posing. Grabbed a couple propes as well towards the end.
When it comes to the ballet, many people imagine tutus and sequins. Yes, that has its place for sure. However, ballet has evolved, and today it is very common to see new pieces by choreographers who may not be household names. At least not yet. The restrictions on movement in what is classified as ballet has evolved and today mixed reps usually include contemporary pieces that will leave you in awe by how a body can move and how creative one can be.
Maybe it’s the romantic in me, but couples are always fun to photograph. I met Madeline and Clint at Hermann Park late one summer evening. After several years together they decided they needed some portraits together.
I walked away from this Galveston family portrait session wanting to plan our next family holiday there. The members of this family all came together from multiple states to have Christmas on the beach. How much fun is that!
As a photographer, I’m always looking for new projects, collaborations and ways to grow. As a small business owner, I think it is important to support others in business in the Katy, Houston and surrounding areas. What’s even better, is when you know the owners. That’s the case with Meagan. She and her husband Darren are the owners of Leeco Honey and they have done such an amazing job building a lovely brand. Their family of four girls is also involved.
We had a good summer. I was busy with various work projects, but we found some balance. The girls appreciated all the time she got with their friends and cousins who now live nearby. We did a lot of park days, swim days, lazy days and staying up late to watch movies.
One of the highlights was our trip to Hyatt Hill Country over the Fourth of July.
I know Reice because I photographer her company several times a year. I’ve had the opportunity to work with her a few times now, and she’s a blast to have in the studio. She is a smart, caring and lovely person inside and out and so I was very excited to do her senior portraits. When we arranged her session I was almost giddy, because Reice wanted to go with a space that was a little more industrial and it made for a fun and unique portrait session.
