Beating the Summer Heat in Houston, TX | Family Photographer

If you are ever around me during the summer, you know I don't do well in the heat.  I feel like my inner monologue is like the witch in the Wizard of Oz, "I'm melting."

We live in the South and that means summer is stinking hot.  For many, that translates into no outside photo sessions.  Well, that doesn't necessarily need to be the case.

I recently did a session in Houston, Texas.  It was a city session, so we needed the city in the background so you could see the gorgeous skyline.  Buffalo Bayou Park has some great spots.  We used to go there often with our dogs before we moved, but since it has been updated, it is beautiful.

When I set up the session with mom we went with morning, which normally isn't what families lean towards, but I'm game for it.  Morning light can be just as stunning as afternoon/evening sun and creates that gorgeous backdrop everyone wants.

The haze this day, in particular, was dreamy.

Despite the intense summers we get, you can still have your portrait session at your favorite outdoor location.  Mornings definitely work best, afternoons are usually blazing this time of year.   Plus, with no school, summers can be a bit easier to fit a session in.
